Experiencing God: A VBS Moment
By Pastor Tony McQueer
I wanted to share with you a God moment that I had yesterday. We just finished our “Experiencing God” group on Wednesday. I love to journey with others who are seeking God’s will, purpose, and plan for their lives, and this group was awesome!
I want you to know that this may be the end of our book study together, but it is only the beginning of our “experience” with God. We are all learning to be still, draw near to God and to start to look to see what “God is already doing all around us!”
I told our group that I know by the Word of God and by faith God is always “working” all around us. That we need to stop asking God to get in on what we are doing and to reveal to us what He is already doing. I believe with all my heart this is true and that He will!
My day started off preparing for our VBS. My part will be to lead the opening ceremony and the closing celebration. I have not had one minute to look at my book until just then. And to my amazement, this is what I read:
God hasn’t retired, you know. He’s as busy now as He’s ever been. But until you see that with your own eyes, it’s tough to have a vibrant faith. God can seem distant or impersonal.
God is active in our everyday lives-we just have to learn to look. We have to make it a habit to keep an eye out for the daily, overwhelming evidence that God is doing great things all around us.
At Roar, you’ll encourage kids and adults to look for God sightings – everyday clues that God is present, passionate, and powerful. A God sighting is simply an acknowledgement that God has done something. It’s giving God credit where credit is due. It’s developing a God-focused view and a grateful heart. I am in awe. I know this probably makes more sense to me because it is my personal story. But what are the chances that we would be ending our study on “Experiencing God” - where the entire focus of the study was to “watch for what God is already doing and get in on it” - and then suddenly enter into actually watching it play out before our own eyes through VBS? I had no idea what the theme was for VBS and I did not even order the curriculum.
I know this is not by chance: it’s by God! To all who have journeyed together in our “Experiencing God” group and who will now journey together in VBS, know this: God is revealing what He is doing. Be prayerful and ready to get in on it!
In Christ’s love, Pastor Tony
