Then God Speaks
By Pastor Tony McQueer
I really don’t want to get up this morning but our dog, Buddy, waits for me to take him outside. My eyes half open. My steps are unsure. I slowly step down from the front porch unto the grass. The freshness of the morning begins to awaken my senses. The cool breeze gives me a breath of fresh air. The beauty of the sun reflecting off the dew captures my tired eyes and almost brings them wide open.
A paw on my leg and soft bark tells me it’s time to go back inside. As I walk toward the door, I notice the grass needs to be cut again. I just cut it two days ago… Do I really have to cut it again, today?
Then God speaks: I send the rain so the grass will grow to reveal to you my desire for you to grow. The grass grows without any effort on your part. it’s your choice on whether you will cut it or not. If you don’t cut it, it will eventually overtake you and you will have to cut it anyway. It will take more energy, effort, and time to cut it later. Weeds will start to grow and start to overtake the grass. You will have to rake up the excess grass or the piles will cause the underlying grass to die.
It’s your choice Tony. You can choose to draw near to me each and every day. I will cause you to grow. My Word will keep you freshly cut. The world will not overtake you. You will not have piles of trash that will have to be removed. If you choose not to draw near to me; I will never leave you nor forsake you, and yes, eventually I will come into your life and discipline you and allow things to happen that will cause you to turn to me again.
"Blessed is the man
Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners,
Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
He shall be like a tree
Planted by the rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in its season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither;
And whatever he does shall prosper."
Psalms 1:1-3 (NKJV)
